Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review
For anyone who’s not familiar with this series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a social simulation game set in 2020. It was developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. This is the fifth main Animal Crossing game. In this review, I’ll go over what to expect from this game. I’ll also touch on Crafting, Amiibo support, and more. But, before we get to all of that, let’s talk about a few of my favorite features.
Island Designer
The first thing you need to know to make your new island look great is how to use the app’s Cliff-Construction tool. To build a cliff, press A while facing grass. When you’re done, you can destroy it by pressing A again. You can stack up to three cliffs. Cliffs can be tricky to navigate, so you will have to build stairs or ramps to make sure your villagers can safely cross.
In addition to the main game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes with an Island Designer app. The app lets you terraform your island, build paths, and add cliffs. You can even create your own custom names for your island. The game’s Island Designer feature lets you change the name of your island as much as you want. This will give you more freedom in designing your island.
To unlock the Island Designer app, you must complete two weeks of objectives. You must get three-star ratings from the Resident Services building. Then, you need to build more buildings and landscaping, and invite the legendary musician KK Slider to perform on your island. Island Designer is a useful app to make your island look its best! If you’re still not familiar with Island Designer, download it from the Tom Nook app store.
Crafting
One of the biggest improvements to New Horizons is the new craft system. In this new game, you can build and craft buildings to improve your homestead. Each building you complete takes one day to complete. Once you have completed several tasks, you can unlock new tools. After all, you’ll need thousands of bells to unlock a salon. But this isn’t the only new addition to the game.
Crafting is an exciting new feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it’s one of the biggest additions to the game’s series. While you can still fish, dig for fossils, and talk to the animal villagers, you can also craft furniture and other items. Among the items you can craft are furniture and tools, as well as decorations for your home. While the new game still has some minor issues related to durability, the crafting system adds a whole new layer of fun to this beloved series.
One major improvement to crafting in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the addition of terraforming and crafting. Terraforming is another key addition, and if you’re an avid animal lover, this is a game for you! It’s easy to get lost in the world and ponder about crafting in Animal Crossing: New Horizons game review
Multiplayer
If you are an avid Nintendo Switch user, you will love the new multiplayer options in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Up to eight players can play on a single island. Each resident of the island has their own home and user account. To play together, simply set up the multiplayer on one Switch and invite your friends. Then, you can share and trade items with the rest of the party. Animal Crossing: New Horizons multiplayer features two modes: online and local wireless.
First, you must set up your Island and start working through the first day. Once you have finished the first day, unlock Dodo Airlines so you can fly off to the nearby Islands. Note that 5 AM is considered the start of a new day in the game, so you will have to complete the game through day two to unlock multiplayer features. Once you’ve unlocked the airport, you can send other players back home.
Multiplayer is a great feature of Animal Crossing: New Horizons supports online and local wireless play, so you and your friends can connect with each other and play together. To join an online game, you’ll need to have an active Nintendo Online Subscription. You’ll need to invite your friends by selecting the “Invite a Friend” option on the multiplayer menu. Afterward, you’ll need to create a new character for the game. You can also invite your friends to join your team.
Amiibo support
The Nintendo Direct for Animal Crossing: New Horizons revealed a slew of new information about the game, including a confirmation of Amiibo support. Amiibo are collectibles produced by Nintendo that allow you to claim rewards in a game. The game makes use of Amiibo statues, cards, and characters from previous Animal Crossing games.
Although Nintendo was a bit quiet about amiibo support at E3, they did confirm that the game would support amiibos. As of now, not all villagers are compatible with amiibo. But Nintendo is adding amiibo support gradually. In the meantime, only villagers that can move to the island will appear in the Campground. For the time being, it looks like you can use the amiibos to bring friends to the island.
The first step in using amiibos in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to unlock the Town Hall and unlock Resident Services. There, you’ll find an ATM-like machine with a green leaf on the side. Use the ATM to pay for items, or use amiibo to unlock special items. After scanning the amiibo, it will receive the correct reward.
Amiibo support in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the most notable additions to this game. Amiibo support in the game enables players to invite friends to the game’s camp, which is perfect for entertaining guests. The game also offers Amiibo support for villagers to stay at their campsites. Unlike other games, Animal Crossing: New Horizons includes amiibo support for a variety of items. However, the villagers are still working out how to integrate Amiibos into their homes.
Drags a little in spots
While Animal Crossing: New Horizons is far from the best Nintendo Switch game, it’s still an enjoyable game that pushes the series’ boundaries in the best possible way. As always, the game’s happy animal friends keep you entertained as you explore the island. It’s also absorbing and relaxing, and it’s often downright delightful. This makes Animal Crossing: New Horizons a win-win for Switch owners.
While Animal Crossing: New Horizons has some clunky elements, overall the game feels like a complete package. The game is packed with hours of gameplay, even though it drags a little in spots. With its addictive nature, players are sure to find a good time playing it for months. It is recommended for players of all ages, but be prepared to deal with some clunky spots.
Gameplay: The game features several new features and tweaks from the previous games. New Horizons has island customisation and crafting, the Happy Home Academy, and a furniture design tool. There are also new characters to meet, and the story is very cute. The only real downside is that the game drags a little in spots. This is one game where you have to re-play sections a few times.
Lack of Save Data Cloud functionality
Nintendo’s latest animal-crossing title will feature a new island, more ways to interact with the world, and a debt to Tom Nook. However, the game does not support cloud saves on Nintendo Switch Online. Fortunately, the company is working on a solution. In the meantime, players can still back up their data to their own Nintendo Switches. Here are some things to consider.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a highly anticipated game, and has been since the Nintendo Switch was announced. It makes significant improvements over its predecessors, such as the ability to customise the environment. Players can even import designs from previous games and craft furniture. However, many fans of the series are disappointed that cloud saves are not supported. This is because cloud saves can allow cheaters to multiply items and save them on another console.
If you’d like to transfer your data to another Switch, you must purchase a subscription to Nintendo’s online service. This subscription costs a small fee. It also does not allow you to transfer save data from one Switch console to another. Thankfully, other games support cloud saves for free. Therefore, New Horizons’ lack of cloud save functionality is a drawback, but it should not be a deal breaker.
