In the world of anime, characters may enjoy all kinds of hobbies and interests, from athletic activities to pursuing art or a musical instrument, and some characters also like to keep pets of all kinds, whether or not those pets can talk. Some anime characters are known for their canine friends, such as Kakashi Hatake, while others are definitely cat lovers.

Some anime characters are actually seen enjoying themselves with a pet cat, while in other cases, fans will learn about a character’s love of cats from lore fluff, such as those found within sourcebooks. Which particular anime characters are confirmed to be fond of cats of all shapes and sizes?
10 Shota Aizawa Adores Cats (My Hero Academia)Shota Aizawa is a teacher at the U.A. school, teaching the homeroom of class 1-A in particular. Overall, Aizawa/Eraserhead is known for his apathetic demeanor and his Erasure Quirk, but despite his gruff exterior, he cares deeply for class 1-A and the future success of his students.
Shota doesn’t seem to enjoy much of anything in his daily life aside from naps, but My Hero lore fluff explains that he likes cats and that he might even have pictures of cats as his computer’s screensaver. He certainly has the personality of a cat.
9 Captain Soi Fon Loves Black Cats (Bleach)The Captain of squad 2, Soi Fon, is a trained assassin and ninja who learned much from her old mentor, Yoruichi Shihoin. For the most part, Captain Soi Fon is known for her cold, no-nonsense personality and ruthless ways in battle, but she does have a hidden soft spot, making her a tsundere.
Soi Fon greatly admires her mentor, Yoruichi, who can transform into a black cat. This inspired Soi Fon to love black cats and everything about them, and in filler episodes or fluff material, Soi Fon is surrounded by black cats or plushies, keychains, or anything else that resembles a black cat.
8 Kyo Sohma Can Speak To Cats (Fruits Basket)Kyo Sohma the tsundere isn’t quite as passionate about cats as some other anime characters, but he still appreciates them. He embodies the housecat spirit of the zodiac, meaning that, even among the Sohmas, he is miserable and cursed, which weighs heavily on him.

Kyo takes care to not transform or show his true cat spirit form, which is huge and monstrous. Then again, he doesn’t mind hanging out with ordinary cats, since he has a supernatural affinity for them. He can even use them as scouts and spies, as can Yuki with rats.
7 Nobara Kugisaki Says She Loves Cats (Jujutsu Kaisen)Nobara Kugisaki’s energetic and wild personality suggests that she might like dogs, but at one point, Nobara stated that she actually likes cats, oddly enough. She doesn’t exactly act like a quiet and reserved cat person, but there’s no denying her words.
Given how stressful and violent her job as a trainee sorcerer can be, no one could blame Nobara for wanting to get a pet cat of her own to help her relax and unwind in her dorm after a rough day. Maybe she’d even get two.
6 Alphonse Elric Keeps Adopting Cats (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)Alphonse Elric is much gentler and kinder than his hotheaded state alchemist brother, Edward, and unlike Ed, Alphonse is quick to adopt stray cats he finds on the streets. Conveniently, Al has lots of space inside his armor body to hold these stray cats until he can decide what to do with them.

More than once, Alphonse exasperated Ed when he stopped the brothers’ journey so he can collect stray cats in an alleyway, and Ed insists that they don’t have time for that. Later, the brothers confused the tiny panda Shao May for a black and white cat.
5 Sakaki Secretly Loves Cats & Kittens (Azumanga Daioh!)Azumanga Daioh! has a colorful cast of characters, including the loud troublemaker Tomo Takino and the young genius Chiyo Mihama, and then there’s the lovable kuudere Sakaki, who is noted for her height and mature attitude. She’s almost like a responsible big sister.
Sakaki’s kuudere side shows itself when cats are involved, including endangered wildcats from the Iriomote Island. Sakaki won’t pass up any opportunity to pet or hug a cat, though the notorious gray Biting Cat tends to chomp down on her hand when she gets too close.
4 Millianna Lives Up To Her Feline Theme (Fairy Tail)A few characters in Fairy Tail have an animal theme, such as Lisanna Strauss, who can use her Take Over magic to become a cat girl in combat. But while Lisanna can turn into a wide variety of animals, it’s Millianna of the Mermaid Heel guild who is totally dedicated to felines.

Millianna looks and acts like a cat however she can, and she even trapped Natsu in a cat-themed room early in the story. She is agile and quick like a cat in combat, too, complete with claws for scratching her foes. She also adores Happy, Panther Lily, and Carla.
3 Nano Likes Sakamoto The Talking Cat (Nichijou)Nano is a robot girl with a Pinnochio complex – that is, she knows she’s an artificial being, but longs to become a real human somehow. This defines much of her character arc, though she is noted for having a few other hobbies and interests along the way.
Nano isn’t totally fixated on cats and kittens, but she does like Sakamoto the talking black cat, and she views him as a respected elder. At other times, though, she might play with Sakamoto and treat him more like an ordinary cat, even if he finds that annoying.
2 Sebastian Michaelis Prefers Cats Over Dogs (Black Butler)In his own words, the demonic butler Sebastian Michaelis is “one hell of a butler,” since he can do it all, from exquisite cooking to housecleaning, running errands, and certainly combat, too. He is the faithful servant of the young Ciel Phantomhive through and through.
Sebastian isn’t very fond of dogs, but he does adore cats, and at one point, he even kept thirteen of them hidden in his wardrobe where Ciel wouldn’t find them. Interestingly, the pets kept in Sebastian’s true home are nothing like cats.
1 Greece Takes Naps & Likes Cats (Hetalia)For those who are unfamiliar, the Hetalia franchise depicts the nations of World War II as attractive fellows in era-appropriate uniforms and outfits, and while Germany, England, and Italy are among the most popular characters, there’s also Greece.
Greece the character reflects the real Greek nation’s homeless cat population with his love of felines, and he might even take naps and pretend to be a giant cat himself, exasperating his friends with all his cat-themed antics.
